If you’ve yet to be convinced of the need to embrace live streaming at your business, the latest figures from StreamElements might be enough to convince you.

The organisation’s annual roundup of the streaming sector revealed that the amount we live streamed in 2019 was up across every platform. Twitch is the most popular place for people to live stream content, accounting for by far the highest number of live-streamed hours in 2019.

In fact, over 9 billion hours of live-streamed content were consumed on Twitch last year, representing a 20 per cent year-on-year increase from 2018.

However, it was Facebook Gaming that made the biggest gains, with live streaming on this platform increasing by 210 per cent year-on-year.

While the vast majority of the streaming covered in the StreamElements report accounts for gaming content, that’s not to say it’s not a growing trend in other areas too.

Social Media Today pointed out that there’s a growing shift towards live stream video chats across platforms, but that it’s something Instagram has embraced with the introduction of functionality to add four or more people to a video chat.

The publication also predicted that there will be a big push on the content on IGTV in the new year too, with the social media site hoping to “better promote influencer and original content on IGTV”. It pointed out that this is certainly one for businesses and marketers to watch, given the huge reach content on Instagram can have.
